03 HISTORY

Founded in the 1960’s by the late Constantine Th. Diamantis, Kynosoura Dockyard was an exemplary shipyard focusing initially on ship building and then on ship repairs and ship recycling.

GIOCONDA was one of the ships constructed at Kynosoura Dockyard. She was launched in 1975 and before being renamed ZAKYNTHOS, she was 87.33m long, 13.50 m wide and 4.20m deep, had two 8-cylinder engines MWM and could board 520 passengers. At that time, she was owned by Oceanis Maritime.

At least 2 more ships were built in the Shipyard, namely GEORGIOS (owned by Fragiadakis) and KASTALIA (owned by ELMES). KASTALIA was sold to STENA and renamed STENA ARCADIA. Additionally, the tanker OURANOS – A416 was built for the Greek Navy.
